Builder Gel Manicure

A Builder Gel manicure is different than a Gel manicure. Builder Gel is a non-chemical version of Acrylic, and is strong and durable, meant for creating length, thickness, and added strength to the nail. This gel can be used to create and build shape since it is stronger than the brush on type gels that are more commonly used. We use gel builders for enhancements and overlays, to create longer nails, fix broken nails, and for extra strength on natural nails. You can apply builder gel to either natural nails for a non-chip overlay, or use it with acrylic nail tips to create extensions or enhancements and it should last 2 to 3 weeks.

Everything You Need To Know About Builder Gel Nails

Builder gels are much thicker than regular gels. The term “gel” refers to a certain viscosity of a liquid. The viscosity of a regular gel resin used in UV-cured nail products will range from roughly 25,000 centipoise to 100,000 centipoise. A builder gel will have a higher viscosity than regular gel.

How long does builder gel last?

2-3 weeks. When applied on natural nails, a strong and healthy base is required. When the builder gel begins to grow out, you can get a refill just like you would with acrylic, or get the set removed and apply a new set.

Is builder gel better than acrylic?

It depends on personal preference. Builder Gel nails might not be as hard as acrylic, but it is more flexible and can actually be stronger. For more natural looking nails, gel builder is often preferred over acrylic. Gel is also great for helping clients with easily broken nails maintain their natural length.

What’s the difference between Hard Gel & Soft Gel?

Hard gel is lightweight, yet strong and durable. It is mainly used to build nail extensions which add instant length and lasts up to 3-4 weeks. It’s odorless, hypoallergenic, and safe for pregnant women.

Soft gel is also known as soak-off gel because it can be removed by soaking in acetone, unlike hard gel. It adds strength to short to mid-length nails and you can apply it over a full set for extra protection.

Builder Gel vs Gel Polish

You can get both soft and hard builder gels to create shape and length.

However, it’s important to remember that both types of builder gel are different to regular gel polishes. These have a thinner consistency and while they do help keep the nail stronger, they aren’t as hardy as builder gels.
